Vanesse Speaks Out against Native Plots

Native plots.

So it seemed that were was a tiger lurking around after all… How convenient! Was it a coincidence or a planned attack? Stormstead is strong! And we won’t be scared by the insignificant threats thrown at us by the natives. Nothing will keep us from the jungle resources.

Vanesse Rumour Mill

Vanesse Whispersong

And now that the natives saw that they unleashed one of their Beasts, yet again, on our village! They try to control us, seclude us from the jungle. They warn us about a fake

menace, than made it real when we didn’t bite. They want to be seen as our trusted friends, but you must see between their lies, like I do.

And I ask you, good people of Stormstead what are they hiding within this forest? A treasure perhaps? Gold? Gemstones? Who knows… and how will we know if we don’t go and find out for ourselves.

We are of Stormstead, we survived this hostile, smelly jungle, and now it is ours! Let’s take our prize!

Brumous Season Ends with “Festival of the Seasonal Pot”

seasonal pot - hunting-1_001

Hunting near the Cascades

Brumous season rolls to a close and the Salty Swallow/Hand Crafted co- hosted their usual “Festival of the Seasonal Pot” celebration.  This year’s event winner was “Boomer,” a dragonet companion to Astrid.  The fae woman herself voiced no interest or even knowledge of the contest but the dragonet seemed quite keen upon fetching whatever was asked.  Boomer showed remarkable skill and good temper flying about  to the amusement and sometimes irritation of his owner.

The event began with a fishing tourney on the docks lead by Blanche.  The lady herself might lack fishing skills but more than made up for it in enthusiasm.  Boomer also pulled his own weight and even more – lifting fish from the river that were as big – if not bigger – than the dragonet.  Our Halfling contestant fared well even though professing that he

Astrid and Boomer

had never before used a fishing rod before.   Once the fishing line was removed from his hair he did quite well.  Wanton Aime added his fishing skills to the fray, the stoic satyr himself doing rather well.

The second event was the gathering contest and a variety of forageables were brought in for consumption.  Items ranging from mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, vanilla pods, grapefruit and even pineapple.  Mizu and Bert joined in at this juncture adding their efforts to the gathering.

The last contest before the feast was he hunting competition and again – Boomer outshone those gathered by bringing down a Mountain Boar, with a little magical assistance from Astrid when the animal proved too large for the dragonet.  The game animals were varied but all-in-all the group returned triumphant to the Salty Swallow.

The end of the brumous season marks the beginning of the breeding season.  Many arrived at the feast to commemorate and celebrate the past several months and partake of the ‘varmint’ stew as the delicacy was dubbed.  It was noted that the gathering also proved a somber tribute toward Wesley Holt – with several of the fish caught at today’s event left at the memorial site.  May he rest in peace and May Stormstead find an end to the tiger menace.

A Tiger Attacks! A Death in the Village

Sindali Lands on Dock

Sindali Returns!

The legendary Sindali lives and is prowling through the jungles and threatening the peoples of Eyr!

The towering dire tiger launched an attack at the citizens attending Hand Crafted’s work party on Thursday night. The enraged feline roared out it’s challenge as it leapt to the dock sending a spray of bloodied sand, ants, and bones before it.   By the end of the evening one man lay dead and a woman lay struggling to survive.

J’veska Qyr’vezzak was the first victim of the evening.   The drow healer was brought down on the craft dock with a vicious slash and bite to the neck that nearly cost her life. Stormstead’s Governor Jil leaped into the fray, showing clear-headed battle savvy and skill with a sword.  The Governor continued to battle the beast head-on while Lyn and Blanche launched a volley of pottery at the beast until it could be turned.  Jil pursued the tiger into the jungle armed with only his sword and a reinforced chair.  Valkyrie, who had just arrived on the scene, immediately jumped to in to provide her assistance to the tiger hunt.

RIP - Wesley Holt

A tragic loss of life…

Blanche and Lyn remained to stem the tide of blood streaming from J’veska.  All might have been lost if not for the timely arrival of Merfolk Nna and Laiken.  Their healing powers and skills were the edge that J’veska needed to rally.  The bleeding was stopped and once it was pronounced safe for transport, she was taken to the Medica for recovery.  As a healer herself, J’veska will now find herself a patient for the next few days.

Sadly, not all were as fortunate.  Wesley Holt met his savage end near the Tidal Wave.  Holt was a reclusive individual.  He was rarely seen inside the village as he spent most of his time fishing.  Indeed, it appears that his journey into Stormstead that fatal night was in pursuit of fishing lore.  Several blood spattered fishing tomes were found near the remnants of the body.  A small memorial has been constructed outside of the Salty Swallow tavern. Anyone wishing to mourn the fisherman is asked to present offerings of fish. ~Preferably dried.~

At press time, Tailikapa of the jungle had said that he was grateful that tigers can not scratch their backs with their claws. We still have no idea what he means by that.”

A Drink of Fresh Water!

A Drink of Fresh Water_001

Black Sand pollutants have been eradicated

Stormstead has lifted its warning on activity within the Kuvari river in the vicinity of the village. Merfolk are invited once again to visit the welcoming waters and the docks, and fishing can now resume. It is still advised that water from the Kuvari should be boiled prior to consumption and fish properly cooked to ensure all pollutants are eradicated.

Stormstead gives its thanks to the dedicated efforts of a number of individuals.  Lives could have easily been lost if it was not for Valkyrie and her Rock companion’s quick discovery of the source of contamination and ensuring the word spread far and wide. Many offered their assistance and aid, and all are recognized. Special appreciation goes to a small group that worked tirelessly in the purification efforts. A shaman bastet of the Moei Asing seemed to have taken charge in leading a group of three others –  a female with white features, a male with gossamer wings, and someone of unidentifiable origin of milky flesh and ebony features.

Their efforts proved so thorough that the waters beneath Stormstead are clean of even trash and debris that has been haunting the waters since a storm blew through not too many months ago.

The Razor’s Edge – Volcanic Glass

Molten Crucible’s Volcanic Glass – Weaponry that can be handled by Mystfolk!

Come one, come all to the Molten Crucible!

We have developed a new material that we call Volcanic Glass. This material is specially crafted to be as strong as steel while keeping a light, razor’s edge to slice through the toughest of foes.  Volcanic Glass is created through a special process in the volcano itself through a secret mixture of glass and a naturally occurring magical mineral.  This leaves the glass extremely strong and stiff and allows it to hold an edge unlike any other.  The glass weighs about ⅓ that of steel so it is very light and easy to wield.

Molten CrucibleBest of all, Volcanic Glass does not hurt Mystfolk –  unlike iron and steel, – meaning they too can have a formidable weapon for all of their cutting and piercing needs.  This material is exclusive to the Molten Crucible, so be sure to head under the volcano to get your Volcanic Glass today!  If used as a weapon, the glass will need to be brought in once per month for maintenance to ensure that it will not break, and that it holds a razor sharp edge.

The Molten Crucible is located in the Back Alley Market.  Simply enter the base of the volcano to the south, pass through the stone giant ruins, and follow the mineshaft tunnels upwards.  Alternatively, one may go through the wooden gate at the Night Cap to reach the same tunnels.

((Submitted by TenmeiHikari))

OOC Info. Volcanic Glass is similar to steel. Sharper but stiffer and slightly more brittle. Weapons made of Volcanic Glass need to be brought to the Molten Crucible once per month to repair. Volcanic Glass weighs ⅓ that of steel, so most swords will weigh about 1 pound or less. Daggers and knives will be almost weightless.))

Sindali Returns? Or Propoganda to keep Villagers ‘in the village?’

Natives lies.

Is she back? After all these years of seclusion, the maneater tigress was said to have attacked a few natives near the entrance of the mines.  If she was so dangerous how did theses natives survive?

Sindali, mate of the great dire tigre Anzu, whom Henry Namingway, founder of our great Salty Swallow vanquished. It was said that Namingway returned in the jungle to finished off the tigress. Has he perished? The greatest hunter of Stormstead?

With the recent elections of the new governor, who knows what these savages would do to stir trouble within the hearts and minds of the good people of Stormstead? How can we trust them? First the Bastets, then they burned down the guards tower, after that they sent the elephants and now a man-eating tigress. I ask you people of Stormstead, when will this stop?

I tell you, good people of Stormstead, do not let their lies scare you.

Vanesse Whispersong

Vanesse Whispersong

Stormstead stands but Stormstead must endure no more. We must not let the natives contain us to the village!  We will take the fight to them, it is time for us to rise and show them who is the conqueror and who is the conquered.

Kuvari Contamination

Captain Valkyrie Aste Munthe and Governor Jil survey the site

A mysterious black sand is contaminating the Kuvari River between the village of Stormstead and the area of the Mystfolk Mound.   The Shoal are advised to steer clear of the area even as the Moei Asing people warn us away from it.  The source of the taint seems to be a black ichorous sand, which is currently being tested. So far it seems that certain forms of magic used on it result in catastrophic effects, causing bubbling, splashing, or ballistic movements of the water surrounding the black sand.  There is even reports that standing near it can cause burning of the skin.  Also found in the vicinity were the presence of hundreds of dead scarabs along the bank and the rocks lining the river.

Triana, the Medica’s lead healer, is now scarred with marks from the sand after a vicious scuffle with a mummy-type of creature.   The black sand has retained it’s dangerous properties – avoid this area if at all possible until the problem is properly contained.   A test sample was taken to the Governor’s hut for testing and experimentation to determine the next best course of action.   The sample itself was transported through the village  only after it was ensured that no other villagers would be in harms way.  Construction of a barrier has to try to contain the effects of the black sand while cleaning the area has commenced.

The Elephants Arrive in Stormstead!

Elephant migration -1Elephants swept through the jungle mid afternoon on Saturday.   A mighty bull elephant, was spotted first, followed by a sea of cows and calves, trumpeting and milling their way through the jungle.  These massive beasts left a wide swath of tramped ground and foliage, cracked trees, and injured citizens.   It will take a long time for the jungle to heal from the scar left to the landscape as they made their way through.

Stormstead is lucky today – no fatalities reported and the injuries reported are minor considering what could have happened.  A few villagers were even lucky enough to bring a few of the herd down which will go a long way to replenishing diminishing food supplies.   The village will be busy with meat preparation and village repairs for the next several days – perhaps even longer.  And this is at a time when repairs to the guardhouse are still being enacted from the recent fire/prisoner escape. .

Elephant migration -2The bathhouse took substantial damage – but more of the hygienic nature than structural. It is important that no one tries to bathe in the waters until repairs and cleanup can be completed.   The Bathhouse owner was fortunate the animal decided to move on with the herd rather than take up permanent residence within the pools.

Medica walls took a hit due to an elephant impact.  The entire structure shuddered and groaned as dust fell from the ceiling and items fell from the shelves inside.  The structure will need to be inspected and repairs needed as it is suspected there may be cracks in the existing structure.

The Salty Swallow has scuffed floors and several of the boards are buckled due to an elephant making its way inside.  One of the elephants also helped itself by eating some of the more readily available stock.

Elephant migration - 4 - croppedThe Governor’s hut narrowly escaped damage when an adolescent elephant slid down the mountain and crashed into the waters below.  The rope railings and walkways in this vicinity will all require extensive repairs.  And those that follow that path should take care of the mudslide area.

Stormstead has survived the potential for pachyderm tragedy.  Damages were light considering the size of the beasts and the potential for damage.  The bathhouse can be cleaned, the walkways repaired.  And the meat is welcome and will go far to refurbish the village supplies.  It appears that it was just another day in the Jungle.

Stormstead Declares Jil as Governor

Stormstead has claimed a new Governor.   Jil, the eleven diplomat from Mystara lead the race and has selected his Council.  Wanton Aime, Valkyrie Aste Munthe, Gideon, and – the surprise nominee for council – Jens IxChel.  Jens remained unseen, though voiced his acceptance for the position through a powerful inky fog which appeared within the tavern.

This evening, Wanton entranced the village with words of Stormstead history’s past before inviting the candidates to give their speeches.

The following is an account of speeches given. While they are as verbatim as possible, some things may have been changed or altered out of failure of the mind to recall the spoken words perfectly.

Stormstead Candidates

Governor Candidates Gideon, Jil, and Ceallach Heavenmyst

Boobette:  Boobette was first to giver her own, but it seemed she was a bit under prepared.   As she scrambled to improvise a speech on-the-spot, she claimed she was running for the position of “Boobette.”  Upon realizing her flub, she then belatedly corrected it to ‘Governor.’  She declared her desire to win and encouraged Stormstead to vote for her.”

Pester:  Pester followed with… his usual eloquent self.  He said he sometimes goes by One-Eye and that he was running for governor, because the position should be his. He explains he has been here in Eyr to have seen it all; enduring all kinds of troubles, including terrible storms and clashes with the natives.  He enjoys the pretty ladies and finds days without them the worst. Stormstead is great to him, and Pester holds experience and Knowledge. He wanted to make a law where pretty ladies can not wear much clothing and enjoys the thought of pardons being discussed on his lap – much to the distress of many of those present.

Gideon:  Gideon apparently was unable to speak and Blanche read his words for him.  Due to his injuries, Gideon had to concede his candidacy for village governor. He admits he can not speak or hear, and he questions whether he will be able to adapt or regain these abilities.  He chose to drop out of the race for the betterment of Stormstead. He thanked any who have voted for him, but asked that they recast their votes for another candidate that would give the best protection of interests for the village. He implored we have to stay vigilant, protect the borders, and ensure the people remain fed while maintaining high morale. He reminds us that there are others that will seek us harm and we should keep an eye out.

Jil:  Jil hails from a kingdom far away and gone in the myst. A place where others have came from. He served the royal families and held a title of Knight and Ambassador. He is experienced in politics and village affairs. He thinks this will aid him as a strong leader. He is loyal and dedicated and only left his old place and his duties there because the lands are no more. He pledged that he will now give his dedication and loyalty to any of Stormstead regardless of age, social standing, or race. That his hands, heart, and soul will be utilized to better the village in order for it to prosper and thrive.

Ceallach Heavenmyst:  Ceallach Heavenmyst found running for Governor as an opportunity to better the land. He asked that no one judge him too quickly, and listed his life experiences. He has trained in the art of blacksmith—taking time to learn how to use the weapons he creates. He has lived a long life, performed as a guard before, and played roles as leader and general of a vast army. He once held the title of Taren in an elven kingdom, though was met with bad times in his prime. He had been involved in many wars and will do the same if a time comes to take up arms especially in defense of Stormstead. He wants to build the village.  Make allies where we can, especially since the village struggles with natives and wrongdoers all the time. Ceallach has kept his word and has joined the Stormstead guards to protect the village and each and every one in it. He works hard to rebuild the guard house that recently burned down. Ceallach is here when we need him, and offers an ear to those needing it most. Even if he is not elected Governor, he vows to make the village proud.

At the end of the speeches, the votes were collected and totaled. While it became clear it was a very close race between Ceallach and Jil, Jil was the one that became elected as the new Governor.

The newly elected Governor Jil stated that he wishes to make Stormstead feel like a home. That he will focus on companionship, acceptance and friendship in times of war and peace. He said Stormstead will stand strong against the invaders and anyone seeking wrong. That Stormstead will weather nature. He intends for Stormstead to prosper as a community and stand firm against any adversary. He proclaims this is a new age with new traditions for Stormstead and called forth a council from a book. One which is said to hold past deeds of those of Stormstead. He intends the council to be a pillar, and foundation of regrowth. That they will help advise, support and offer aid. The council is meant to always work towards the betterment of the town and its people.

Stormstead’s Council is Chosen:

  • Wanton Aime was called upon as being one of Stormstead’s most supportive members. His ownership of the Salty Swallow helps aid in being one of the first locations many will meet at when arriving to the village. He has aided in conducting assemblies and offering much needed knowledge.
  • Valkyrie Aste Munthe was called upon as the Captain of the Guards. One that is experience and wise in the nature of law. Her voice is valued on the council.   The Guard Captain recently suffered an attack on the guard house due to her dedication.
  • Gideon was called upon to serve on the Stormstead council. His campaign for governor was a grand one, revealing all the things that makes Gideon, Gideon. He chose to wear no mask nor hide that he is a demon. He is honest and hardworking. He has risked much for Stormstead already and will no doubt continue to do so.
  • Jens Ixchel.  Lastly – and most alarmingly to some of those present – The Shadow Prince – Jens IxChel, someone unknown and previously believed to be far away in Shalan’ti – was called and asked to serve upon the council.    A great shadow fog swirled into existence within the tavern and Jens’ voice sounded from within it.  There was no visible signs of the entity himself, though the voice was clearly recognized by Blanche Greyling.  Nothing was really said of Jens’ service to Stormstead, only his deeds of old. It was even stated that possibly due to his close workings with Harlow back in Mystara, it was hinted that his actions here may have remained secretive and unknown thus far.   The citizens of Stormstead shall soon find out.

The Elephants are Coming!

elephant migration

Elephants Migration!

Elephants are migrating!  A large herd of elephants are approaching the village, making their majestically sedate passage through the jungle on what may be a yearly migration.  If they maintain their course, they would arrive sometime on Saturday (01/23/2016).  A badly winded man raced his way into Stormstead this afternoon to deliver the warning. The elephants passed through the clearing he calls home and destroyed his shelter and ground his food supplies into mulch.  As a single man without weapon he could do nothing.  But as a community we may have a chance!   Stormstead would do well to post watches so that we may gather to try to divert the animals if possible.   If they follow the trajectory of their current path – they would first arrive near the Mystfolk Mound.   If left unchecked they could march on toward the village – if that is indeed their course.  There is no predicting the beasts!  The man had seen such elephant migrations before but this is the largest he has seen in recent memory.

Be strong Stormstead!  Be Aware!  We must preserve our village.  We could also use this opportunity for capture or hunt the beasts to replenish depleted food supplies.  This is a call out to all who might be able to help!
