Hunting near the Cascades

Brumous season rolls to a close and the Salty Swallow/Hand Crafted co- hosted their usual “Festival of the Seasonal Pot” celebration.  This year’s event winner was “Boomer,” a dragonet companion to Astrid.  The fae woman herself voiced no interest or even knowledge of the contest but the dragonet seemed quite keen upon fetching whatever was asked.  Boomer showed remarkable skill and good temper flying about  to the amusement and sometimes irritation of his owner.

The event began with a fishing tourney on the docks lead by Blanche.  The lady herself might lack fishing skills but more than made up for it in enthusiasm.  Boomer also pulled his own weight and even more – lifting fish from the river that were as big – if not bigger – than the dragonet.  Our Halfling contestant fared well even though professing that he

had never before used a fishing rod before.   Once the fishing line was removed from his hair he did quite well.  Wanton Aime added his fishing skills to the fray, the stoic satyr himself doing rather well.

The second event was the gathering contest and a variety of forageables were brought in for consumption.  Items ranging from mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, vanilla pods, grapefruit and even pineapple.  Mizu and Bert joined in at this juncture adding their efforts to the gathering.

The last contest before the feast was he hunting competition and again – Boomer outshone those gathered by bringing down a Mountain Boar, with a little magical assistance from Astrid when the animal proved too large for the dragonet.  The game animals were varied but all-in-all the group returned triumphant to the Salty Swallow.

The end of the brumous season marks the beginning of the breeding season.  Many arrived at the feast to commemorate and celebrate the past several months and partake of the ‘varmint’ stew as the delicacy was dubbed.  It was noted that the gathering also proved a somber tribute toward Wesley Holt – with several of the fish caught at today’s event left at the memorial site.  May he rest in peace and May Stormstead find an end to the tiger menace.
