Stormstead Founder’s Day: Partying like it’s 1367!!

A rousing and wondrous display of pageantry and celebration as the citizens of Stormstead and her allies gathered to recognize the spirit of the village founding. The village was well decorated for the occasion and a gathering took place at the Crafter’s Dock to begin the parade. Wanton Aime led the procession after adorning himself with bright costume and plumage per the village symbol, the hearty and unassuming swallow. Julian Kor’me of the Gnome Depot, Orliene of the Bathhouse and Hope of the Medica, as well as Keth of the Moei Asing joined in the parade procession and followed their intrepid leader.  Wanton coursed his way through the village foot paths and wooden decking, up the hill past the Gnome Depot and the Title Wave, over to the Governor’s hut and around the bend past the Medica to the Salty Swallow.  All along the way stopping to observe the good name of Stormstead and offer insight into the various points of interest.  Also noting how Stormstead remains high and dry amid both conflict and the seasonal weather.

The final stop of the parade route was the fishing dock below the infamous bath house. The denizens gathered together for food, imbibed drinks and games.  There were some grand finale fireworks on display and an appearance and address by Governor Aaron Guile!

Governor Guiles good words:

“Another year has come to pass! And Stormstead is alive and thriving! Unlike myself!” (ghost humor) “Good evening all, good evening! This is-oh, I do believe our second celebration of Founder’s Day, though it was twelve years ago we settled here from Mystara. We built this village from a tent city and into the foundations ripped from the earth and ships we sailed upon. And though we have been set back many a time, always does Stormstead rebuild itself bigger and better.”

And then the Governor offered a toast: “To many more years of Stormstead. Stormstead stands!” Everyone in attendance cheered and the evening concluded peacefully.  May peace continue to rule over all of Stormstead! Stormstead stands!

Bath house set ablaze!

Walking fire.  That’s what it looked like.  Following after a red winged woman and a corpse that appeared almost like a living man. Their parade itself something to frighten the weak of heart. As they skulked through the jungle on their way to their victims and their prize.  All the denizens of the village followed the ruckus and the sights and smell of a fire. They Ebon Reach had set fire to the bath house! Or so it appeared.  Upon further inspection… it seems that the walking corpse man is not with them. The red winged woman… it was unclear what her motivations were in the matter. However, what was readily seen were the corpses of the dead and the walking fire… living fire that acted under the command and control of the red winged woman.

Not long after, the one known as Quiet and the supposed new Eternal, now a winged one herself, arrived at the bath house, its roof already up in flames and they disavowed the corpse man’s actions. Quiet proceeded to put out the rest of the flames that had already partially succumbed to the efforts of several denizens, later identified as Vos, Omi and Keth, to squelch the fire with water from a line of buckets to the nearby ponds and back. The Eternal ripped the corpse man to shreds and tossed his limbs all around as though he were merely a wild animal’s play thing. Such violence. And yet, the bath house was saved in partial form, mostly intact at its foundations. The roof fell in upon a rather curious creature, who appeared to be a man but of some considerable strength. However, he escaped. And with him the other Reachers. Perhaps it may be time to have them see some prison for their constant meddling.  Then again, the building and perhaps the nearby trees would have burned entirely and folks injured as well, without their intervention. It’s a difficult thing, being saved by one’s enemies.

Once the smoke cleared, Billy Holt of the Hand Crafted Jobs and Trades organized several reconstruction efforts. The Stormstead Guard house is out of order, due to a recent escape. Now, there’s a giant hole where the door used to be! Villagers can help by gathering materials and putting the pieces together. Visit Billy in the Stormstead Guard House for more details. There’s coin involved as well! Billy and his brother have also organized the bath house reconstruction.  Setting up supplies for folks to use to aid in rebuilding the roof. Be sure to see Sam Holt at the bath house for more information. He’s offering coin as well for work completed.

The Governor’s Address

To the citizens of Stormstead, our allies and all our unaffiliated visitors,

Last night the dreaded nuisance and criminal, Alexander Molvolio was taken into custody by four denizens of Eyr, Orliene of the village and proprietress of our fine bath house ((please, you get very sweaty in the jungle… she has soap!)), formerly of the ebon reach; Scarlet, of the village and book shop employee ((seriously folks, see her for those book boons!)) and the Moei Asing; Arelea, of the village and the Moei Asing and Sage Advice employee ((you know you want tea! I hear the neem is fabulous)); and a stranger, Shallinn of… well, nowhere and no affiliation, though she has been seen in the village.

These good and responsible citizens took it upon themselves to track down the felon who had failed to comply with my just ruling. The wanted posters were up all over the village and these ladies managed to bring him down in one night by their combined efforts. And he’s a wolf.  So I have to admit, I’m rather impressed.

I honestly thought it would have been done sooner.  The offered bounty was several silver coins and the ruffian … had been spotted … *in* the village.  He was located in the tavern several times since the bounty went up for him to be taken alive and turned into the custody of the Stormstead guardhouse cage! Quite frankly, I’m abysmally disappointed.  I mean I would have done it myself… but I’m incorporeal. This man.  A puppet of the Ebon Reach… was allowed to mosey into our village, threaten our women and steal from the good satyr’s stores. And no one stopped him!

I am calling for renewed vigilance in the village and volunteers to guard the perimeter!

Don’t think I don’t see you men and magic casters out there.  Milling about, drunk and chasing the ladies and the men. Sitting behind the bar, haggard and unwilling to commit to a cause.  What are you doing other than drinking and eating the village out of its stores? Are you bringing in enough to replace what you consume?

From now on, our citizens must unite and renew the stores together, as a community. And if you are able bodied and wish to partake of what the village has to offer, at the least, take up arms and fight for it if you see criminal elements parading about the village! Fight for this good place you hope to call home.

In the meantime, many thanks once more to the women of the land.  For their staunch character and fighting spirit.  May their magic and their sword wielding arms and their brilliant minds continue to serve us all well.

-Governor Guile

The Fiery Beast & the Water Serpent

Once the void rifts fell, not all was silent and peaceful as before. The great beast Sindali rose once more from his grave, in spirit at least, though as before, physical effect could be felt and for some distance around the scene of the battle. The giant and vicious cat created flames upon himself and threatened to light fire to the jungle as well! Why have the spirits been so disturbed? Is it provoked by the Ebon Reach and their activities? Or are the spirits of the land and the great Mother goddess angry at us for our part in all of this? What does she wish to teach us with this attack? That not all elements within her land remain tidy and controlled under her purview? Does she wish for us to simply suffer for our transgressions? Or is there something more hideous going on here?   For a taint and a corruption surely remains upon our sacred land. Or… has the sacredness fled and we are truly left alone on neutral ground?  I believe it is time we should pray to the mother goddess to send us the guidance of a new Myan or Myar. I know very little of the tiny mystfolk left in charge. Perhaps she may rise to rank of Myan. I do know she is well liked, she would bring us the peace we seek.

36009946180_b272397514_z

At nearly the same time, the waters darkened and we were beset by the spirit of a creature dispatched from this realm at the establishment of the Kuvesi healing stone and the pond in which it now rests. The great serpent who held one of the stone fragments in its cavernous belly, cut open and dispatched from the realm of the living.  It returned to haunt the waters and again in form physical enough to cause harm and be dealt damage, that it might be defeated.  It had crept up to the shore and turned the waters red with its anger and vengeance. It was dispatched by healthy doses of holy magic! An eyewitness account proclaimed the following:

It takes one final blow of holy magic, cast by Caspian, the merman, to break the ghostly Leviathan! Piece by piece, it breaks apart, with glowing orbs flying through the air! The spectral beast roars in a high pitch, sending waves to crash and the trees to bend! It EXPLODES in a splash of ghostly water and then is no more!

36065779220_3d6a099663_z

And so too, the great beast of the water was defeated once more and the denizens of the land and sea remain safe. Or so it seems. With the Reach crushed of its leader and the victories upon the land and sea in the defeat of spirits, the people are stronger than ever. Let us hope their bravery does not abandon them. We must undertake ceremony and proper Moei Asing ritual… to encourage the proper balance and also to strengthen ourselves against our own physical and spiritual enemies.  The time for unity and action among the disparate tribes again looms upon us. Who will bring us together? Someone should find that sassy bastet nudist I’ve seen prowling the jungle… between him and the pixie Verdict, I feel Ame’s will can once again reign over the land.

The final battle of the void rifts?

Really what can be said for this calamity? That the villagers felt the threat so severely that it required a full assault on what by all accounts were three members of the Ebon Reach and their leader or master, the Eternal. A large section of void was set aside by some dark power and the villagers entered the rift and were immediately beset by the savagery of the Reachers. Such unrequited blood lust saw to it that the villagers would respond with force and the battle raged for several hours. Each side took it’s hits with the only healers taking care exclusively to aid the villagers. By all accounts one such healer was neutral and the other a fledgling member of the Moei Asing. Regardless of the severity of hits, the Eternal and his undead accomplice survived the battle until the very end. When a villager, otherwise normally a healer, took the opportunity to deliver a savage blow to these two Reachers and unleashed a powerful flower known as Corpus Lotus. It was only a matter of time then before the Eternal was defeated. The attacks by the villagers did damage but witness accounts state that he fell rather quickly.  Was it the lotus? Or was this his plan all along? Others have stated that one of the Reach spoke to the rifts seeing their time come to pass and the villagers and Moei Asing would be tasked with the clean up so to speak.  Two other members of the Reach battled fiercely as well, one disappearing following the battle and the other, an Alexander Movolio, was taken prisoner.

Once the Eternal’s body disappeared, the Void rift began to disintegrate and those with magical inclination were able to collapse the rift at the site of the battle.  The effect was quite violent and did considerable damage to the land and to the villagers who had so bravely fought. Witness accounts spoke of a faun by the name of Glade, a celestial by the name of Xal, Wanton Aime of the Stormstead tavern and council, and two elves, one of the woods and one formerly of the Ebon Reach. What will become of the Reach now? It’s difficult to tell, but what is quite discernible is the dramatic disappearance of the void rifts and little sign remains of their having been upon the land at all. Some cleanup remains, as well as the threat of continued corruption upon the land itself. Hopefully, the damage is temporary.

So who was the Eternal of the Ebon Reach? Now that he’s gone, destroyed, taken out by the cold metal and indiscriminate magic in the hands of the village and jungle denizens.  His history runs deep in Eyr. A pack alpha of Mystara who came with the original settlers and terrorized folks before he even took a step into undeath. He was well known to those who remained and yet, disappeared for some length of time. He was witnessed roaming the land again only some few months ago and taunted a few familiar denizens but essentially found benign. Of course some could see the signs, that there was more to his coming back than met the eye. How could anyone prepare for his inevitable rise as Eternal of Ebon Reach? Very little is known of the actual ascension, since the secrets run deeply within the darkened halls and tunnels. However, one thing is well known and that is the power of the Void.  It’s already afflicted several of the village and the Moei Asing. What remains to be seen is how exactly the Eternal wields this force. If he does so by his own accord, he may have indeed met his fate. However, if the Void instead uses him as its instrument of torment upon the land and her citizens, it’s only a matter of time before a new vessel is chosen and the terror returns to us. The question remains, will the undead return though his body seemed to be vanquished or will another rise in his place? Let us not underestimate the power of this Void, even a vile monster does not pollute its own home for long. The void rifts may be only the beginning.

The unbridled convergence of malevolence – a void story.

It seems that a plague of unholy darkness is upon us. Beginning in the depths of the stone laden Ebon Reach, finally breaking its bonds and flowing upon the surface freely now. What dark ritual began this malevolence, the wretched creature could not tell me. So heavy laden with fear and weakened by the void energies he had been exposed to. I did my best to comfort him. He called himself, begotten of Yang. I asked him what business such a holy creature had in the dark depths. He told me he was curious. When daylight is upon the surface of the land and filters through the trees upon the high mountains and even the depths of the water see such vestiges of sun, there is an absence of fear and pride takes hold. Believing we are safe from what lurks below. These were his words. As a warrior, he desired to rid himself of pride, as prescribed to him by Myan Ornith, many months ago. So he decided to complete the ritual of cleansing by traveling into the darkest depths of the Reach. To show to himself true fear, to feel it and to know he could meet his match in battle. To hold that as his mantle that he might be overcome by his own self confidence. A healthy dose of humility he called it.

By his own account, three beings stood before the Void. Though he could not name it as such. I knew it by his description, a swirling vortex of darkness and intense energy. I’ve felt it myself before, in a man I cleansed of its dark influence. And in my recent encounter with a voidling. Three beings of cruel appearance stood before the void and summoned them by prayer and sacrifice. He spoke of watching them for only a few minutes before such fear and dark energy overwhelmed him that he could no longer keep his eyes open. And he could not retreat, because he had sneaked into a heavily protected dominion, locked in by a heavy stone door. So he sat there and listened to their incantations and warped words of worship and as they cast their magic upon the void to call forth doom, as he spoke of it, he screamed and prepared for his demise. Crawling away into the dark tunnels and hiding. However a great explosion and deafening boom  had drowned out his cry of agony. That’s when the story catches up to what others already know. The gloom cast over the land during the cataclysmic explosion of void energy, opened the void rifts that now hold us captive in trepidation upon this land.

The enormous rifts of untold power and influence soar skyward, a disc of enormous density spins and sheds its dark energy as thick tendrils of blackness. The area consumed by darkness as the effect spreads outward. People have reported physical corruption, delusions and fear while in close proximity to the rifts. Other effects are less tangible, but one thing seems clear, the void has torn a rift in our material plane and the energies being released upon Eyr are dark and dangerous to living creatures. We know that holy magic can slow the progress of the void rifts, even weaken them considerably. Thwarting the influence of their void energy upon the land. A final cure has yet to be found. However, a few intrepid souls are formulating a plan to end the Reach’s reign of terror. Of course, I won’t divulge that plan in case prying eyes have decided to engage in good literature. Let’s just say,  the commonly known thing about fear, is that it leads good people to do things they would not normally do. I will leave our dear readers to decide if such things are truly for our collective benefit. Or merely at the whims of a select few.

Lessons from the Tomes

Oh the books how they flutter! It’s not entirely clear who did this to them, but someone has enticed the books to roam about the realm free. As birds perhaps.  The magical tomes have found their way into every territory, Stormstead, the waters of the Kuvari’s Deep, the clearing of the Moei Asing and the pits of Ebon Reach.  They are at times peaceful.  Other times violent. And every feeling in between.  Frightened, confused, all knowing and reasonable. They’ve encountered the diversity of denizens in this jungle realm. And their message seems most enticing.  They are free and they intend to remain this way, since they no longer have a keeper.

34578388681_f9762030b2_mWhat could have freed the tomes? At this point it’s mere speculation, but one thing is well known, anyone who looked into the shop could see a potent reminder of the culprit. A book taken down to ash.  Who would have motivation to destroy a magical tome? Certainly no one in the village proper would take such desperate measures to disturb the proper placement of the books.  Perhaps the Kuvari or the Moei Asing? Though it is doubtful.  They are all too weak to take such action.

And why destroy a mere magical book?  As an example perhaps. Freedom is false.  For clearly, all the books are returning to their shop. Their slavery.  Their tomb. It’s a good reminder for the denizens of the jungle. Their situation is tenuous.  They may appear free, but in reality, they too are subject to a keeper. And more often than not, slaves to their own weaknesses.

Body Count Rises on Eyr’s Shores

I missed Saturday’s Fair, and from the reports I’ve heard this was a wise decision. The reports have been fairly consistent from those observers I have come across.  It began as normal – businesses and vendors setting up on the beach near the Reef, people preparing for trade and looking to the future.  Even those that suspected that a Shalan’ti ship cloaked with invisibility spells was in the area did not forego their plans. But none were expecting an open attack.  The ship – believed to be a mercenary ship – has been in the area since at least last Thursday, though possibly longer as we feel they have been watching us for longer.  But last Thursday was the date the Deeper jousting tournament was disrupted and their Talisae, Xae’raan Thiaroe, disappeared.

Firebolts rent the air aimed for the beach just as the Shalan’ti ship shimmered into view, showing armed warriors headed for the beach. Chaos followed as Eyr residents fled, and the Deepers, with the help of a few brave others, formed an attack. It appears our efforts to keep Stormstead seemingly neutral have failed.  I see this open attack a direct retaliation for our interference the night the Wyvern attacked those gathered and was killed because of it.

shalanti-massacre_001

Murdered Sailors the Cause of these Vicious Acts?

I heard the sound of explosions and flashes of light as far away as my den.  By the time I reached the cliffs of Ohm, the battle was nearly over.  The firebolts having died down to glowing pits in the sand, the Shalan’ti making a retreat back to their ship with more hostages taken.  Reports say that Juni of the Moei Asing was taken along with another siren – Neris.  The Talisae is believed to be a hostage on the boat.  If they have her, is only a matter of time before she ends up in one of those shrouds and tossed out onto the waves.   How long before these hostages meet the same fate as the bodies shrouded in sailcloth that now pile the banks?  “An eye for an eye.”  I’ve heard that adage before and I think that the Vega family of Shalan’ti lives by this code.  Unless thwarted in some way, I do not see them leaving Eyr’s waters until a matching body is delivered – one for each of the sailors.  There is no telling how many hostages are on the boat.  Perhaps they are reaching their count?

Stormstead should exercise caution.  Our relationship with the members of Kuvari’s Deep is tenuous but beneficial.  Relations steering toward positive which is encouraging. It is doubtful that the Salty Swallow could remain in the waters without the protection they can offer.   But this battle with the Shalan’ti poses a real dilemma.  We need to push for peaceful resolution unless we wish to live under fear of attack for the rest of our time here.  The Vega family is known for their vengeance – they would not have risen to power in Shalan’ti without it. I would like to see the Deepers negotiate.  This is the only way I feel they will see any come out of that ship alive and also end the vengeance battle.  In the meantime, I will avoid Eyr’s waterways and passages.  With their cloaking ability, there is no telling where they may strike next.

Explosions Rack the Reef – A Talisae Taken

Xae’raan Thiaroe is missing!  Her helmet being found on the ocean’s floor just minutes after a series of explosions and lights lit up both sky and waters.

Alithia Joust

Alithia, Matron of the Deep

I ventured to the beach to attend the Honor Ceremony for Alithia on Thursday.   Ceremony concluded, I chose  to remain on the beach to enjoy the ongoing festivities.   All seemed well and I was just starting to gather my things to head back to the den when a huge shadow passed overhead  At that point things started happening very fast.

A large wyvern passed directly over where I was seated on the beach.  I watched it circle a spot over the reef.  Then BOOM! A series of lights and explosions rent the air and seas around me.  The lights and noise were intense and blinding.  I fell onto the sand but when I looked up again I saw the wyvern raising into the air over the waters with a large net tangled in his talons and a wildly thrashing form inside.   All this happened very quickly.. But then even while I was watching – the wyvern and it’s bundle vanished!  As if never having been there at all.

Xae'raan Thairoe

A Talisae Missing!

I fled the area immediately but have since learned that Talisae Xae’raan has been taken!   Her helmet was found on the ocean floor and I suspect that was her struggling form I saw being carried off by the wyvern.  We have no idea if she is alive or dead at this point.  And thus far she appears to be the only one missing.   We can only hope that she still survives.

I fear that this is the work of Shalan’ti.  Several of Princess Lihen’s sailors were murdered here last month. Most bodies not recovered but the signs in evidence pointed toward an aquatic attack. The normally demure princess quite angry about it. Her Vega family heritage clearly visible as she spoke on vengeance.   Stormstead is in a tenuous position.  Kuvari’s Deep is a powerful force which we cannot afford to antagonize.  And the Shalan’ti aristocracy could make things very rough for us if we side openly with the Deepers.  We will have to use both caution and discretion as we move forward. The Talisae must be found.  Let us hope she is still alive and of sound mind.

A Change in the Tides

There has been a ripple in the waves signifying a change within Eyr’s waters.  Xae’raan Thiaroe , an eel mer whose helmeted countenance has become a familiar sight within the waters has risen to the rank of Talisae within Kuvari’s Deep.  Wanton Aime and Blanche Greyling of Stormstead reached out to meet with the Talisae to negotiate passage terms for the the village’s ship, ‘Swallowed Pride.”

swallowed-pride-1

The ‘Swallowed Pride’

A verbal agreement has been reached between factions and safety guaranteed for the “Swallowed Pride” that should prove beneficial to both factions. The Deepers shall be entitled to first selection of up to 10% of goods arriving in Stormstead and trade goods routed for Shalan’ti.  Passenger fare will be adjusted to include 10% passage fee for those arriving or departing via the ship.

Pleasing news came as an invitation was extended

sarah

Alithia, Spear Bearer of Kuvari’s Deep

by the Talisae herself.

An honor ceremony is to be held on Thursday (Starting Thursday, March 30 @ 5PM SLT) to honor Alithia.

The siren Alithia is a well known and loved figure to many here in Eyr.   This event will be open to any and all who wish to attend.  Talisae Xae’raan reported that breathing potions would be made available and those feeling comfortable enough might even try their hand at the jousting event following the ceremony.

Stormstead citizens are wary.  Experience has taught us this.  We have seen much treachery and unbalance.  But these first attempts at negotiation and meeting have left the council feeling cautiously optimistic about future relations.  Time will tell.
