Body Count Rises on Eyr’s Shores

I missed Saturday’s Fair, and from the reports I’ve heard this was a wise decision. The reports have been fairly consistent from those observers I have come across.  It began as normal – businesses and vendors setting up on the beach near the Reef, people preparing for trade and looking to the future.  Even those that suspected that a Shalan’ti ship cloaked with invisibility spells was in the area did not forego their plans. But none were expecting an open attack.  The ship – believed to be a mercenary ship – has been in the area since at least last Thursday, though possibly longer as we feel they have been watching us for longer.  But last Thursday was the date the Deeper jousting tournament was disrupted and their Talisae, Xae’raan Thiaroe, disappeared.

Firebolts rent the air aimed for the beach just as the Shalan’ti ship shimmered into view, showing armed warriors headed for the beach. Chaos followed as Eyr residents fled, and the Deepers, with the help of a few brave others, formed an attack. It appears our efforts to keep Stormstead seemingly neutral have failed.  I see this open attack a direct retaliation for our interference the night the Wyvern attacked those gathered and was killed because of it.

Murdered Sailors the Cause of these Vicious Acts?

I heard the sound of explosions and flashes of light as far away as my den.  By the time I reached the cliffs of Ohm, the battle was nearly over.  The firebolts having died down to glowing pits in the sand, the Shalan’ti making a retreat back to their ship with more hostages taken.  Reports say that Juni of the Moei Asing was taken along with another siren – Neris.  The Talisae is believed to be a hostage on the boat.  If they have her, is only a matter of time before she ends up in one of those shrouds and tossed out onto the waves.   How long before these hostages meet the same fate as the bodies shrouded in sailcloth that now pile the banks?  “An eye for an eye.”  I’ve heard that adage before and I think that the Vega family of Shalan’ti lives by this code.  Unless thwarted in some way, I do not see them leaving Eyr’s waters until a matching body is delivered – one for each of the sailors.  There is no telling how many hostages are on the boat.  Perhaps they are reaching their count?

Stormstead should exercise caution.  Our relationship with the members of Kuvari’s Deep is tenuous but beneficial.  Relations steering toward positive which is encouraging. It is doubtful that the Salty Swallow could remain in the waters without the protection they can offer.   But this battle with the Shalan’ti poses a real dilemma.  We need to push for peaceful resolution unless we wish to live under fear of attack for the rest of our time here.  The Vega family is known for their vengeance – they would not have risen to power in Shalan’ti without it. I would like to see the Deepers negotiate.  This is the only way I feel they will see any come out of that ship alive and also end the vengeance battle.  In the meantime, I will avoid Eyr’s waterways and passages.  With their cloaking ability, there is no telling where they may strike next.

Explosions Rack the Reef – A Talisae Taken

Xae’raan Thiaroe is missing!  Her helmet being found on the ocean’s floor just minutes after a series of explosions and lights lit up both sky and waters.

Alithia Joust

Alithia, Matron of the Deep

I ventured to the beach to attend the Honor Ceremony for Alithia on Thursday.   Ceremony concluded, I chose  to remain on the beach to enjoy the ongoing festivities.   All seemed well and I was just starting to gather my things to head back to the den when a huge shadow passed overhead  At that point things started happening very fast.

A large wyvern passed directly over where I was seated on the beach.  I watched it circle a spot over the reef.  Then BOOM! A series of lights and explosions rent the air and seas around me.  The lights and noise were intense and blinding.  I fell onto the sand but when I looked up again I saw the wyvern raising into the air over the waters with a large net tangled in his talons and a wildly thrashing form inside.   All this happened very quickly.. But then even while I was watching – the wyvern and it’s bundle vanished!  As if never having been there at all.

Xae'raan Thairoe

A Talisae Missing!

I fled the area immediately but have since learned that Talisae Xae’raan has been taken!   Her helmet was found on the ocean floor and I suspect that was her struggling form I saw being carried off by the wyvern.  We have no idea if she is alive or dead at this point.  And thus far she appears to be the only one missing.   We can only hope that she still survives.

I fear that this is the work of Shalan’ti.  Several of Princess Lihen’s sailors were murdered here last month. Most bodies not recovered but the signs in evidence pointed toward an aquatic attack. The normally demure princess quite angry about it. Her Vega family heritage clearly visible as she spoke on vengeance.   Stormstead is in a tenuous position.  Kuvari’s Deep is a powerful force which we cannot afford to antagonize.  And the Shalan’ti aristocracy could make things very rough for us if we side openly with the Deepers.  We will have to use both caution and discretion as we move forward. The Talisae must be found.  Let us hope she is still alive and of sound mind.

A Change in the Tides

There has been a ripple in the waves signifying a change within Eyr’s waters.  Xae’raan Thiaroe , an eel mer whose helmeted countenance has become a familiar sight within the waters has risen to the rank of Talisae within Kuvari’s Deep.  Wanton Aime and Blanche Greyling of Stormstead reached out to meet with the Talisae to negotiate passage terms for the the village’s ship, ‘Swallowed Pride.”

swallowed-pride-1

The ‘Swallowed Pride’

A verbal agreement has been reached between factions and safety guaranteed for the “Swallowed Pride” that should prove beneficial to both factions. The Deepers shall be entitled to first selection of up to 10% of goods arriving in Stormstead and trade goods routed for Shalan’ti.  Passenger fare will be adjusted to include 10% passage fee for those arriving or departing via the ship.

Pleasing news came as an invitation was extended

sarah

Alithia, Spear Bearer of Kuvari’s Deep

by the Talisae herself.

An honor ceremony is to be held on Thursday (Starting Thursday, March 30 @ 5PM SLT) to honor Alithia.

The siren Alithia is a well known and loved figure to many here in Eyr.   This event will be open to any and all who wish to attend.  Talisae Xae’raan reported that breathing potions would be made available and those feeling comfortable enough might even try their hand at the jousting event following the ceremony.

Stormstead citizens are wary.  Experience has taught us this.  We have seen much treachery and unbalance.  But these first attempts at negotiation and meeting have left the council feeling cautiously optimistic about future relations.  Time will tell.

Death Floats above the Reef

There is a Shalan’ti craft moored above the Reef off of Eyr’s beaches.  The scent of death is so thick that even the sea air cannot dispell it.  I approached closer only because I felt that I had to.  I had heard the rumors at the tavern and felt that I needed to confirm for myself.

shalanti-massacre_001

Shalan’ti Ship

The massacre happened days ago.  I call it a massacre for that is what it appears to have been.  Sunbleached bloodstains littered the ship’s decking with spots and smears leading off into the water.  There were few seagulls present. Not enough flesh left on the single remaining corpse to stir much interest.  I can only guess at human due to the exposed bones and desiccated skin. Clothing remnants were indistinguishable though I could tell that they had been made of silk fabric.

How and when did this happen?  I did note that there were marks on the walls where it appeared items had been removed.  I also found a shirt where buttons had been ripped off. And the dead man’s shoes were missing.  But then again so were most of his feet.  Robbery?  The ship had little cargo that I could see.   How many others have been witness to what happened here initially or during the ensuing days?

Eyr’s  waters have been peaceful since the sediment was cleared.   Who within our waters would do such a thing?  This is the Shalan’ti ship which carried the visitors.  How will they return? And are the waters safe?  Will there be reprisals against us?

We must learn more of what happened here.  Anyone with information is encouraged to step forward.

The Mists & Signs of things to come

These happenings are not natural, they speak of some dark magic perhaps or the ill tidings of a battle between unseen forces, the gods. Gods of misfortune clearly.  For those who have suffered from the depravity of the mists, including myself, we will suffer the scars for years to come.  The darkness that mingles with the benign vestige of a delicate fog.  The turmoil that leeches into a person’s mind.  The hunger suffered by those who answer the mists calling.  These are terrible things. Outrageous marks upon our good realm.  Upon Ame’s good people and their allies.

31042311036_53576b36d8_o

I cannot say for certain, yet, what has caused these things to be.  I work on the problem diligently.  I give thanks to the Mother goddess for releasing me from slavery to the mists.  I cannot yet put into words what I felt, saw and heard in the mists and their whispering.  Perhaps I may never, for I would rather forget than to delve deeply into such darkness.  I would not pretend that there is some goodness in these strange occurrences, the red hued mists stalking the people of the realm, forcing them into servitude to feed its own hunger, or at the very least, people becoming so disillusioned from dark hallucinations that they truly believe this to be! I saw, even through the fog, fire and ice, threatening to rip apart the very land.  Lightning strikes dancing about the jungle floor, taking down trees and startling the wildlife.  The animals shrieking in horror and scattering or attacking those who dare come too close.

I believe these things to be signs and portents of a darkness yet to come.  Turning creature against creature.  Dragons carrying off the injured, warrior attacking warrior, driders sworn to our protection becoming endangered themselves, talk of the entire village taken refuge up in the crystal and myconid caves of Mt Ohm.  Yet, this news frightened me! The mists descended from the high reaches of Mt Ohm! If the land is cleansed of its evil, it may retreat back to whence it came, leaving the villagers in grave danger.

Yes, the cleansing came upon us.  I believe it is upon us even now.  The ice creaked, reaching out with snowy tendrils and the fire spread, scorching the land. The Mother goddess, Ame Moei, willed to no longer tolerate this scourge upon her creation.  She drew justice down upon us all.  The gods who threaten this realm will not be allowed to continue their terror upon us. Ame Moei saw the sacrifice was finished and brought upon us the cleansing rains. Right order will be restored to the land. I write this to you now that you may realize later what has happened. Be warned of the retreating flood waters and see fit to prepare yourselves for greater storms to come.

Thieves Return to Stormstead Village

Once again it seems a thief or thieves are operating within Stormstead Village.  The Salty Swallow reported items missing and broken from inventory and Hand Crafted representatives stepped forward with much the same findings.

Both scenes appeared as if done in a hurried fashion with breakage.  The items taken valuable as the trade ship not yet having completed it’s first run and goods remaining in short supply.

Clues were left, however, in blood spore which was left in the plank flooring.  Samples were collected.  The Stormstead council now reaches out to those who may be able to read the sample or trace the source.  Volunteers may contact employees at either the tavern or craft dock.  Please keep in mind that proof of abilities may be required.

Fierce Battle or Overwhelming Slaughter?

Editorial Comment submitted by Blanche Greyling

The scent of death lies heavy in the air near one of the upper pools and an unmarked cave on Mt. Azifix.  Nearby plantlife is shredded and flattened from the ferocity of the battle.  Six dead wolves litter the ground around the pools and a nearby cave.  Six brutally killed and left to rot on the jungle floor.  No hides recovered, no bodies buried.  They were left for the jungle to cleanup.

The carnage of this site shocks me still.  The sheer waste of the lives themselves and the bodies after.  Hides left untaken and bodies left to rot.  I have seen the damage that wolves can do and I admit that my loyalties are torn.  I had scented the signs around Tilikambo.   The animals were desperate, anxiety ridden, and lashing out. I don’t understand the underlying reason.  There was no full moon.  I just know that what I scented felt unnatural.  I don’t feel the wolves were truly at fault here.

I am worried for those wolves and wolfkin remaining.  Will we fall subject to whatever overcame these wolves?  Will we become targeted next either by whatever affected the wolves or the people that killed them?

blanche-greylingAre we entering a new phase of understanding with the Asing?  Who can tell.  But I do know this is a side of the natives I’ve not seen before.  And I admit it does give me pause – I remember the care Stormstead took to harvest trees from the jungle to honor the Asing god and maintain balance.  And now we see where animals have been slaughtered and their bodies left to litter the jungle floor.

Stormstead’s pride of the waters and a symbol of hope for the was successfully launched today!  Acting Governor Wanton Aime lead the lead the occasion by announcing the shipwright, Langston, as the Captain.

The event began with a tour of the ship by the Captain himself.  The ship launch was successful with the vessel striking the water in a huge splash amidst cheers from the residents.  Fireworks followed.   It was quite the night for celebration for Stormstead.

Wanton Aime and Captain Langston

The ship has been a concerted effort for Stormstead lVillage lead by the Craft dock.  Shipwright Langston, now Captain Langston oversaw the project himself and the materials that went into it.  It was with great joy that Stormstead citizens watched her take to the water with the support and help of those friends that also made the ceremony.

I myself as spokeswoman for Hand Crafted would personally like to thank Langston for all of his efforts and the long hours involved.  And all the many and assorted who were able to contribute their time, labor, and materials that went into the making of the ship.

The Trade Fair will be held this Saturday on the beach beginning at 12:00 noon.  It is hoped that the Captain and selected Crew will be ready to sail soon after to begin a trade route between Shalan’ti and Aradia.  Anyone interested in crewing for the craft should contact Captain Langston.  The ‘Swallowed Pride’ will remain anchored in the deeper waters just off the mouth of the Kuvari as all final preparations are made.

Long may she sail!

Stormstead Prepares to Launch a Ship!

At long last Stormstead’s ship is near readiness.  Hand Crafted employees have worked together with citizens of Stormstead and their allies to provide the labor, materials, and skills to complete this task.  Special thanks is offered to our own Hand Crafted shipwright, Langston for his specialized skills.  Additional thanks to all those who participated in collecting, repairing, and building Ship components.   The bare bones are in place.  Now is a good time to see if this ship will float.

stormstead-ship_001Stormstead Chancellor Wanton Aime has announced a ship launch party.  Event will be held on the banks of the Kuvari near where the ship is drydocked.  Food, beverage, and music will be provided.  The Ship’s name will also be announced at that time.  Everyone is welcome!

Join us for our triumph!  Celebrate the fruits of labor!  Questions can be directed to either Wanton Aime or Blanche Greyling.

What’s in a Name?

Stormstead’s Ship is Nearing Done.
It’s Sails prepared, the maps are hung.
Hard work prevails –  The work has been shared
A captain is sought – preferably one with hair.
Why doesn’t matter.  Just that it be there.

It’s two requests we have this day. A  Ship’s Captain and Name-to-be.
So waste not a single moment, and prepare your case to plea.

The Captain must be stalwart, a hearty soul and brave.
The ship as home, the ocean to roam, and experienced in the art of trade.
Submit yourself in person to a council member to set your case.
Put your best self forward.  Hurry now – make haste!

A nameless ship would be disaster, a wound that could not be salved.
So a ship’s name must be given.  So submit what you may have.
And on the day of launching, In happiness you all will bounce.
As a new name is given… which the chosen winner will announce.

(Characters interested in offering themselves as IC Ship Captains please reportship progress to any Stormstead Council member.  IC position only.

Ship’s naming contest open to all.  Submit name via NC to anyone on the Admin Team.  The winning ship name will be announced during the ship’s launch ceremony (to be determined).
