Pirates Rousted! Ship Taken! Hostage Recovered!

Pirate Death on Beach

Beach soaked in Blood and Littered with Bodies

Pirate blood stains the beach and their bones litter the ocean floor after citizens of Eyr rallied to roust the scoundrels and attempt to take back those who were taken.  Revenge has been enacted, the captive reclaimed and stolen goods recouped. It is indeed a day to celebrate as the ship, although severely damaged, appears to have a full cargo within its hold.

Ornith Returned!

Members of the Moei Asing and Stormstead both celebrate Ornith’s return.  The shaken elven woman lies dehydrated and weakened from her ordeal in the Medica.  She is expected to recover fully though she may battle the memories of the horror that took place for years to come.

The whole incident was set off when a small group of obviously nervous and undoubtedly frightened pirates stepped across the threshold of the Salty Swallow just as people were beginning to celebrate the success of the ‘Seasonal Pot.’  Proving that there is no honor among thieves, their spokesperson, Naseer, plead for leniency and offered up the date and location for when the pirates would begin ferrying their ill-gotten gains to the ship, “Scorpion’s Sting.”  In exchange he and his entourage were allowed to leave with their heads still attached.

The battle began on Sunday at midday.  Sails were spotted in the distance as pirates scuttled about the beach in preparation to depart with their last boatload of stolen goods.  A wave of citizens swept the beach led by the Shadow Prince himself and quickly followed by Captain Valkyrie and Wanton Aime.  Allynna of the Moei Asing added her weaponry to the fray and a young Roc appeared and began an aerial attack, raining rocks and fish down onto the hapless pirates.  The battle also spilled over into the waters where a savage group of Merfolk awaited, led by Derek Marshall and later joined by Alithia.  At the thick of the battle, Clover swooped up the beach armed with her customary button and needle to help take out one of the final cargo-loading pirates.

Fight On Ship - Upper Deck

Jens, Daniel, Arakaki, and Clover take on Captain Scorrow

The battle continued on the ship with even more citizens pouring in.  Daniel and Arakaki fought bravely, taking several injuries themselves, but they are a formidable duo.  The waters began frothing with the fury of the sirens attack below.  Soon afterwards, the pirate bodies began once again to pile up.

Clover, Daniel, and Arakaki

As the screams were dying down, the real horror emerged.  Captain Scorrow – clad in black and wielding her magics and venomous sting, she lashed out, spinning and dodging and spewing venom. Her rage made her careless and she underestimated the powers of the crowd.  Swiftly incapacitated, her last gasp offensive was to summon up a wave of negative energy.  It struck like a lighting bolt destroying not only herself but cracking the very hull of the ship, leaving it debilitated and listing badly above the Mer reef.

Pirates and other predators have historically made their way up the Kuvari to wreak havoc upon our citizens.  The fact that they appeared again is nothing new.  However the victory that was won by Eyr is truly unprecedented.  Never in recent memory has such a punishment been dealt to those who would trespass against us.  My hope that this serves as a deterrent against future attacks.   The complete annihilation of the cutthroats that wronged us is a demonstration to all who pass through our jungle that we are a force to be reckoned with.  Let this serve as warning.

Village Angered at Continued Pirate Attacks

Our Governor was taken.  Blood has been spilled.  Bodies have collected – both on the beach and within the village itself.  Where will it end?

Pirate violence and mayhem has landed in Eyr!  So much has happened this reporter scarce knows where to begin.

  1.  Governor Jil has been returned alive.  He is wounded and sick but now able to move about.
  2. Hostage swap resulted in a pirate battle on the beach.  Two pirates dead and one in custody.
  3. Pirates staged a robbery against Gnome Depot, getting away with goods but losing their lives.  Three pirates slain in the attack.

Pirates Roaming the Docks

It all began over a week ago when Governor Jil was gravely wounded in an Ebon Reach tournament and then abducted by pirates.   Valkyrie, Acting as Stormstead Governor, negotiated a hostage swap with the pirates.  Her strategy proved successful.  Jil was returned, injured and sick, but alive.  Of that we are most thankful.  Black Molly, one of the pirates suspected to be involved with the kidnapping, is in custody.  Her two companions are dead after having attempted to battle Aima and Valkyrie on the beach. Two others escaped..

Blood on the Beach

One would hope that would have been a warning to the pirates.  But apparently they are a stubbornly stupid lot.  Or simply incredibly vicious.

Just this afternoon – a scant 24-hours later – pirates attack again.  This time targeting Gnome Depot. Depot owner Adrianne Parkin acted swiftly and wisely, at first acquiescing to the demands but in actually biding her time. The pirates’ bad luck started when she delivered the burly fellow a squirt to the eyes from a freshly sliced lemon.  A wolf attack and a flood of villagers ensued after Wanton Aime raised a timely alarm.  The pirates were overwhelmed by sheer number, succumbing after a fierce battle that raged from the Depot down to the Craft docks.  Bloodstains are once again in evidence.

Pirates attempt to flee Unsuccessful!

The pirate heads are to serve as an example.   The bodies fed to the sharks even as their clothing and valuables redistributed amongst the villagers.  Though seemingly brutal it seemed a just and deserved ending.

What happens next?   Gnome Depot is severely depleted of supplies.  Pirates were able to abscond with their goods.  Those in the boats apparently rowing away even as their companions were being brought down.  And one pirate remains yet in custody.  Will we have more attacks?  We can only hope this last attack will drive them to prey in easier waters.

Beheaded, Belittled, and Fed to the Sharks.   Pirate valuables will decorate the villagers while their heads now decorate Pikes.

Pirate Woman Jailed on Suspicion

Captain Valkyrie – Acting Stormstead Governor

The Governor remains missing and no word or information of his well being has been found.  Valkyrie, Stormstead’s Captain, remains acting as Governor in his absence.

However, Stormstead now has an ace.  Or at least a pirate that can hold accountable.  One that Valkyrie is not likely to let slip through her fingers.

Bonnie, the peglegged pirate woman charged with abducting Governor Jil,  is now residing in the comforts of Stormstead’s own guardhouse cage. The pirate damsel vehemently denies any and all claims her.  Her pirate companions also deny culpability.

“Ye all are cruel…Especially that one…” With that statement Bonnie pointed at Aima, one of the newly appointed guards of Stormstead and the party responsible for arresting Bonnie. It was also Aima who alerted Valkyrie to the presence of pirates in ambush outside the guardhouse.   “Heartless and cruel..I better be treated fairly and impartially..Otherwise I see no reason to be here.  What Governor? Who ye speaking of? I will not comply until I get me leg back..You stole my child you cold hearted fiend!”  With that Bonnie lapsed into a fantastical story of her child’s ashes being stored in in her ‘peg’ which had been taken to hinder any possible escape attempts..

Stormstead Justice – Deprived of her peg and unable to stand, Bonnie remains in her cell.

Bonnie’s burly pirate companion was quick to deny any involvement  as was the third dark companion.  “Look, Missus… we are humble pirates, aye. Bu’, we aren’t the crew you be lookin’ for, see.  D’ya know how many pirate women ‘ave pegs few legs? Do ya know what the harlot’s pox /do/ to a lassie at port? Yar gon’ need more description than that – dun trow us in with your politics.”

Stormstead’s Quartermaster, Kel’iah, remains unreachable at this time due to the head wounds suffered at the time of the attack.  Released from the Medica, it is believed she has returned to the healing qualities of the ocean to complete her recovery.  She is the only eyewitness known to have been present for the actual abduction – other than the pirates themselves.  Is there truth in Bonnie’s claims of innocence?  Doubtful.  But we are a village of laws so proof must be provided.

Stormstead Guard Captain Valkyrie seemed content with Bonnie’s arrest and the charges against her.  Bonnie’s two shipmates struck a deal and were allowed to depart upon the promise of obtaining information about Stormstead’s missing governor.   With luck and the leverage of their partner in jail, it is hoped the two may help in tracking down the Governor’s location and provide for his safe return.

A Citizen’s Cry to Put an End to Ebon Reach

Image of a Scroll Bag

Editorial Corner

As a citizen of Stormstead I am frustrated and furious.  I want the dead to stay dead.  I want them deader.  I want the Reachers to crawl back in their hole and become victims to the Void they worship. I want to twist the undead inside out and upside down to spill out their innards to become fertilizer at my feet.  Then I want to spit on the remains before setting it all on fire.  And right now I would I would give everything I own to see that happen. I am not alone in these wishes.   Any Villager who has been here more than a week wants the same thing.

Stormstead village has been victimized yet again.  Valkyrie has been taken hostage suffering who knows what sorts of torture.   Amara Hendry remains in the Medica struggling for breath with damaged lungs. For what?  The Reach’s purpose unknown though the guardhouse appears to be the target.  Weaponry theft?  I think not.    They have more weapons at their disposal than we could hope to put together.   They wield spells, spiders and serpents with apparent impunity.  And now they have swords that emit toxins that damage our lungs and render us helpless and at their disposal.  The dead are using to target the living.  How do we fight this?  They are dead already which makes them impervious to most anything I can do.

Our blood has been spilled and taken against our will and for evil purposes.  Our citizens have been attacked, poisoned, trapped, kidnapped, tortured, and held hostage.  Our own Governor became a victim to one of their pit traps not once but twice.  We have lost weapons and supplies.  Our Medica was sacked.  For what?  The dead have no need of healing.  It was a needless theft and destruction of items we work so hard to obtain and create.  But above all – we have lost lives.  At least one has died at the hands of Ebon Reach during the time I have been here.  Many more I’m sure I will never know about.  I wonder how many skeletons lie in those tunnels?

We know the names of at least two of the Lich villains.  Hikari and Malorum.  We know also know of a drider was involved in this last raid and a helmeted figure that has been recognized as being in the village before.  From here on out I believe we fire first and ask questions later.  Burn them.  That is one of the few avenues open.  At least if burned it takes them overnight to respawn.  Burn them and then take their tunnels.

Every Villager needs to stand ready.  If you even suspect someone is of the Reach – raise the alarm.  Carry your weaponry with you at all times.  Don’t ask, don’t question, don’t hesitate.  Make the first strike against them count as it may be the only chance you get.  They are powerful.  We need to be more aggressive.  We need to make this vermin scuttle back beneath the ground where they belong.   They are already dead.  Now is the time to bury them.

Ebon Reach Attacks Guardhouse – Valkyrie Taken!

Hikari, Mastermind Behind Attack

The Village of Stormstead suffered yet another attack by Ebon Reach on Monday night.   The night erupted in cries for help as Amara Hendry fled the guardhouse covered in  webbing and coughing from seared lungs due to toxic gasses.

The guardhouse was attacked.  A sword was stuck through the floorboards which emitted a gas. “It was an attack led by Hikari. The Drider tricked us with him, backed up by the Undead warrior seen about before.”  When questioned further about the warrior, Amara had this to say:  “I believe it was the same person, yes. I remember that person who came in smelling like death to the Medica. It was the same.”

Hikari, who is also known as ‘Master of the Void’ is known for his torments and attacks and is well known within the village.  It is believed he wielded the sword emitting the toxins and was also the one to attack the Guard Captain, Valkyrie.

Valkyrie Taken as Hostage

The damage to her lungs proved her undoing and the hapless Amara became the drider’s victim.  Lungs damaged and coughing from the poisonous gas, she was captured and spun into a cocoon.  Thus powerless she was threatened with death which resulted in Valkyrie’s selfless surrender to save the woman.

As of this evening, the bard remains in the Medica.  She is improving slowly but steadily.  Her lungs taking most of the damage she remains weak and under the care of the healers.

Valkyrie is vanished.  Assumed that she has been escorted to the depths of Ebon Reach where more treachery and misery awaits.  We have to get her back.  We have to stop this.

What is Stormstead to do against the onslaught of evil?  All citizens are called upon to use caution.  Carry weapons with you at all times and be on the lookout for a drider whose name remains unknown, and Hikari.   Do not attempt retribution on your own – if seen call out immediately and gather help.   We need our Guard Captain back.  Hopefully that can be arranged.

Kuvari Contamination

Captain Valkyrie Aste Munthe and Governor Jil survey the site

A mysterious black sand is contaminating the Kuvari River between the village of Stormstead and the area of the Mystfolk Mound.   The Shoal are advised to steer clear of the area even as the Moei Asing people warn us away from it.  The source of the taint seems to be a black ichorous sand, which is currently being tested. So far it seems that certain forms of magic used on it result in catastrophic effects, causing bubbling, splashing, or ballistic movements of the water surrounding the black sand.  There is even reports that standing near it can cause burning of the skin.  Also found in the vicinity were the presence of hundreds of dead scarabs along the bank and the rocks lining the river.

Triana, the Medica’s lead healer, is now scarred with marks from the sand after a vicious scuffle with a mummy-type of creature.   The black sand has retained it’s dangerous properties – avoid this area if at all possible until the problem is properly contained.   A test sample was taken to the Governor’s hut for testing and experimentation to determine the next best course of action.   The sample itself was transported through the village  only after it was ensured that no other villagers would be in harms way.  Construction of a barrier has to try to contain the effects of the black sand while cleaning the area has commenced.

Stormstead Declares Jil as Governor

Stormstead has claimed a new Governor.   Jil, the eleven diplomat from Mystara lead the race and has selected his Council.  Wanton Aime, Valkyrie Aste Munthe, Gideon, and – the surprise nominee for council – Jens IxChel.  Jens remained unseen, though voiced his acceptance for the position through a powerful inky fog which appeared within the tavern.

This evening, Wanton entranced the village with words of Stormstead history’s past before inviting the candidates to give their speeches.

The following is an account of speeches given. While they are as verbatim as possible, some things may have been changed or altered out of failure of the mind to recall the spoken words perfectly.

Stormstead Candidates

Governor Candidates Gideon, Jil, and Ceallach Heavenmyst

Boobette:  Boobette was first to giver her own, but it seemed she was a bit under prepared.   As she scrambled to improvise a speech on-the-spot, she claimed she was running for the position of “Boobette.”  Upon realizing her flub, she then belatedly corrected it to ‘Governor.’  She declared her desire to win and encouraged Stormstead to vote for her.”

Pester:  Pester followed with… his usual eloquent self.  He said he sometimes goes by One-Eye and that he was running for governor, because the position should be his. He explains he has been here in Eyr to have seen it all; enduring all kinds of troubles, including terrible storms and clashes with the natives.  He enjoys the pretty ladies and finds days without them the worst. Stormstead is great to him, and Pester holds experience and Knowledge. He wanted to make a law where pretty ladies can not wear much clothing and enjoys the thought of pardons being discussed on his lap – much to the distress of many of those present.

Gideon:  Gideon apparently was unable to speak and Blanche read his words for him.  Due to his injuries, Gideon had to concede his candidacy for village governor. He admits he can not speak or hear, and he questions whether he will be able to adapt or regain these abilities.  He chose to drop out of the race for the betterment of Stormstead. He thanked any who have voted for him, but asked that they recast their votes for another candidate that would give the best protection of interests for the village. He implored we have to stay vigilant, protect the borders, and ensure the people remain fed while maintaining high morale. He reminds us that there are others that will seek us harm and we should keep an eye out.

Jil:  Jil hails from a kingdom far away and gone in the myst. A place where others have came from. He served the royal families and held a title of Knight and Ambassador. He is experienced in politics and village affairs. He thinks this will aid him as a strong leader. He is loyal and dedicated and only left his old place and his duties there because the lands are no more. He pledged that he will now give his dedication and loyalty to any of Stormstead regardless of age, social standing, or race. That his hands, heart, and soul will be utilized to better the village in order for it to prosper and thrive.

Ceallach Heavenmyst:  Ceallach Heavenmyst found running for Governor as an opportunity to better the land. He asked that no one judge him too quickly, and listed his life experiences. He has trained in the art of blacksmith—taking time to learn how to use the weapons he creates. He has lived a long life, performed as a guard before, and played roles as leader and general of a vast army. He once held the title of Taren in an elven kingdom, though was met with bad times in his prime. He had been involved in many wars and will do the same if a time comes to take up arms especially in defense of Stormstead. He wants to build the village.  Make allies where we can, especially since the village struggles with natives and wrongdoers all the time. Ceallach has kept his word and has joined the Stormstead guards to protect the village and each and every one in it. He works hard to rebuild the guard house that recently burned down. Ceallach is here when we need him, and offers an ear to those needing it most. Even if he is not elected Governor, he vows to make the village proud.

At the end of the speeches, the votes were collected and totaled. While it became clear it was a very close race between Ceallach and Jil, Jil was the one that became elected as the new Governor.

The newly elected Governor Jil stated that he wishes to make Stormstead feel like a home. That he will focus on companionship, acceptance and friendship in times of war and peace. He said Stormstead will stand strong against the invaders and anyone seeking wrong. That Stormstead will weather nature. He intends for Stormstead to prosper as a community and stand firm against any adversary. He proclaims this is a new age with new traditions for Stormstead and called forth a council from a book. One which is said to hold past deeds of those of Stormstead. He intends the council to be a pillar, and foundation of regrowth. That they will help advise, support and offer aid. The council is meant to always work towards the betterment of the town and its people.

Stormstead’s Council is Chosen:

  • Wanton Aime was called upon as being one of Stormstead’s most supportive members. His ownership of the Salty Swallow helps aid in being one of the first locations many will meet at when arriving to the village. He has aided in conducting assemblies and offering much needed knowledge.
  • Valkyrie Aste Munthe was called upon as the Captain of the Guards. One that is experience and wise in the nature of law. Her voice is valued on the council.   The Guard Captain recently suffered an attack on the guard house due to her dedication.
  • Gideon was called upon to serve on the Stormstead council. His campaign for governor was a grand one, revealing all the things that makes Gideon, Gideon. He chose to wear no mask nor hide that he is a demon. He is honest and hardworking. He has risked much for Stormstead already and will no doubt continue to do so.
  • Jens Ixchel.  Lastly – and most alarmingly to some of those present – The Shadow Prince – Jens IxChel, someone unknown and previously believed to be far away in Shalan’ti – was called and asked to serve upon the council.    A great shadow fog swirled into existence within the tavern and Jens’ voice sounded from within it.  There was no visible signs of the entity himself, though the voice was clearly recognized by Blanche Greyling.  Nothing was really said of Jens’ service to Stormstead, only his deeds of old. It was even stated that possibly due to his close workings with Harlow back in Mystara, it was hinted that his actions here may have remained secretive and unknown thus far.   The citizens of Stormstead shall soon find out.

The Night Cap Hosts a Ballshroom Blitz!

On Friday, December 11, the Night Cap hosted a Ballshroom Blitz, inviting anyone and everyone to don their finest clothes, along with a mask, and enjoy the bounty of its goods for free for one night only. Many took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the bounteous event, hosted by Valos and J’veska Qyr’vezzak.

Party at Night Cap - The Crowd

It is rumored some got wind of too many spores and may have shown off more than just their dancing skills, but who is to say? The room was filled with happy Eyrians enjoying the mushrooms and exotic treats.

Party at Night Cap - Gideon

Others simply watched from the sidelines, and enjoyed the raffles, which were held every hour on the hour and proved of great interest to spectators and winners alike.

Party at Night Cap - Valos and Valkyrie Asta Munthe

On the first hour, a raffle was held for a bolt of finely embroidered silk cloth imported from Shalan’ti, suitable for crafting. This prize was won by Drejan.

On the second hour, a raffle was held for a custom-made piece of weaponry, crafted by Master Blacksmith Harlow, Governor of Stormstead himself. This raffle was won by Blanche.

On the third hour, a raffle was held for a cask of fine wine which had been recovered from the depths of the sea by Prince Kenzie of the Merfolk and was won by Pandora.

The final hour and raffle was for a week of goods on the house of the nightcap, and enjoyment of these wares free of charge.  This raffle prize went to winner Alika Kalu.

The party ended with a grand finale as the walls seemed to pulse with life. Some guests held their breath and high-tailed it out, while others seemed happy to take the opportunity to get in one last good high for the night. Either way, the party was clearly a grand success.

— by Darsha, the one who sees.
