Dangerous Assailant at Large!

Breaking News Category Image

I am afraid I must report on some rather distressing news, Dear Readers. There is a nefarious criminal darkening the corners of this side of Eyr! (As if we didn’t already have enough on our plate thwarting the current threats to our sleepy little village!) We just received this citizen’s report and we’re advancing copies straight away in an effort to warn the rest of the commonwealth of this “Wild Man’s” presence:

A dark and roughly clad stranger in bared feet and mud-covered attire has been stalking the good people of Eyr. At first believed to be just a shadow – a rumor, he emerged from his place of hiding to abduct Lady Blanche Greyling while she made her way along the trail between the Village and the Falls. Bound and carried off to a hidden glade, she was then interrogated about the Village and its activities. More might have befallen the woman but luck was on her side as Valkyrie Munthe of Morgenstiern intervened after a timely tip from the naga, Mizu. Lady Greyling was rescued unscathed, though visibly shaken. Her Captor vanished into the forest after realizing he had been tracked by the savvy aasimar.

After calming down, Lady Greyling seemed more distraught over the loss of her arrows and broken archery bow than the actual capture. She did offer these further words about her Captor:

“He had cold blue eyes. His features were hard to determine as he is well-covered in dirt and dried mud. His hair was dark and thickly matted. His accent seemed familiar though I cannot place it. His feet were bare but he carried an old wooden shield that was battered and appeared well used. And the man needed to spend some time with a bar of soap.”

Mistress Greyling refused to say more about the actual capture, but she did offer this final caution:

“I think he is spying upon the village… creeping around at night and maybe even listening to our conversations. He is no stranger to our activities.”

There have been whispered sightings and glimpses of the Wild Man since. And the tavern has been playing host to hushed conversations and conjectures. Without any established justice system in place, the people may have to take matters into their own hands.

New rumors are beginning to circulate. Ones that are even more alarming regarding the Wild Man. Whispers of extortion and blackmail for safe passage. Can this be true? How long will the people of Eyr put up with this type of manipulation?

The Wild man must be caught. Justice must be served – even if vigilante justice. Perhaps even Jungle Justice.

Be careful as you travel the jungle foot trails and stumble off to your hammocks to sleep off the midday heat. It has been brought up that our homes, set high above the brackish river waters on stilts, could serve as a perfect hiding spot. Before you tuck in for the night, shine some lantern light beneath the floors lest the fiend be lurking below!

Keep your eyes at the wary, Eyr! We are all not safe until this man is found and taught a lesson!

A Crafter’s Inquiry

Calling All Craftsmen

As a perfect demonstration of the sort of reliable information delivery one can expect from the Rumour Mill, here is letter sent to us by one of our citizenry. If you’re a fellow craftsman of Eyr, this Blanche Greyling sounds very interested in hearing from you!

“Are you an Artisan who is looking for a way to market and sell your product or services? Do you have a great service or product you think others would like? It could be anything that is handcrafted by you here in Eyr. If so, I would like to meet you.

My name is Blanche Greyling and recent addition to the Island of Eyr. I am a seamstress/leatherworker by trade with many years of experience. I recently began experimenting making leather sandals. Although it seemed a foolish pursuit to me (I mean how can these scraps of leather be considered real footwear anyway?), I find that people actually like them. I am wearing a pair and find them surprisingly comfortable. In either event, I am adapting and as such I have an idea…

I would like to set up a market or a shop and invite people like myself to participate. These would be other Crafters who have handmade goods or services they wish to sell/trade. I am but one person and as yet the population is small so I cannot support such an idea by myself. If Crafters could work together to provide staffing for the Shop, we could work together – providing a centralized place for customers to come to inquire about projects and place orders. We could work together in this fashion. This may take the form of an open market or even a structure – perhaps one of the currently vacant buildings in the village. If there are enough of us interested – perhaps both a market and a building!

If you are a Crafter like myself and interested in such an idea, please contact me. I am currently residing within the Fishing Village and generally easy to find. You can seek me out up at the Bathhouse if not down in the village proper.

I look forward to meeting with you.
Thank you.

Blanche Greyling
Master Tailor/Tanner/Leatherworker/Cordwainer”

We Are Here, The Eyes and Ears of Eyr

Image of a Scroll Bag

Greetings Denizens of Eyr!

Good to know our scroll carrier is placed in just the right spot to attract your notice. What you are presently reading is a newsletter we’re affectionately calling The Rumour Mill. Expect to see more of these as time goes on.

Considering the rickety state of our survival in this jungle – what with the violent beasts, raiders and the all too familiar neighborhood aggression – a certain number of us have taken it upon ourselves to pass down word back and forth between you all as a means to keep tabs on ALL activity here in the heart of the jungle.

You need a message to be delivered loud and clear to the masses? We’re the avenue for it. Drop us a note. That’s what that side pouch on the scroll carrier is for. Keep an eye for more scrolls as future news presents itself.

We are here, the eyes and ears of Eyr.

We are The Rumour Mill.

Introducing The Mysts of Eyr’s Rumour Mill

Before Mysts of Eyr, The Realm of Mystara had its own dedicated blog, an IC newsletter called The Mystara Tribune. This was a terrifically convenient vehicle to keep players up-to-date with all the various events, businesses, people of note and everyday goings on within the sim. Not only that, but it gave another medium for Mystara players to express their literary and artistic creativity outside of Secondlife.

When it came time to start development for Mysts of Eyr, it was an absolute no-brainer decision that Eyr needed its own blog as well to carry over the Tribune tradition. Thus, we have The Mysts of Eyr Rumour Mill.

While its IC motivations and distribution might take different routes in a hostile jungle environment, OOCly the Rumour Mill functions exactly the same as the Mystara Tribune. Any player can offer content to the Rumour Mill from art to stories to reports so long as the content follows our posting rules. Have a report, a piece of artwork, a poem or a story to share? Contact an admin or Rumour Mill Editor-in-Chief today!

Feel like fielding a regular column or editorial? All you need is a WordPress account and know how to write in an in-character voice. Apply to become a Rumour Mill Journalist.

Lets make some awesome stories together!

Here it is..

Since we arrived the natives have been restless, strange creatures have been spotted, maybe we are finally making headway with them, some are trading with us….

One day we will have the home we want, but what will it take to get there?

At least the tavern serves decent drinks.
