A Time for Celebration

Culture Faire Sign.Rev2Our sailors have been put to rest and the dead pirate’s are no longer terrorizing our corner of the island.  It is a time of sadness for those lost and a time for renewal.  We can use this time to to bounce back.  Recuperate.  Build our stores.  I for one am grateful for the chance to look forward to something positive in our future.

Scald – Hand Crafted Goods & Trades

With this thought in mind I would like to announce that Scald, Hand Crafted’s owner, is hosting a Cultural Faire the weekend of May 5-6.  The event will be held on the beach in conjunction with our trade fair.   A covered area will be set up for people to display their own arts and talents. We consider all craftsmanship a work of art.  Those that create fine knives are as welcome as those who create pots or make jewelry.  A staging area will also be available to allow for storytelling and dance.   And of course we shall not forget food and drink.  There should be ample for all.

Everyone is free to bring their own artwork and displays to set up as well as opportunity to showcase your talents. If you have any special considerations or questions, please contact Scald at the Hand Crafted dock.

This event will be ran in conjunction with our monthly Trade Fair.  But please… keep in mind that trade goods will be slim this month. The Salty Swallow will be leaving port severely shorthanded.  First order of business will be sailor recruitment in either Shalan’ti or Aradia.

To Build a Ship….

Stormstead’s Governor is putting out a call searching for those with shipbuilding and/or RM - Ship Picturecarpentry experience.  We have worked hard to recover lumber and building supplies from the destroyed pirate ship.   What we now need are the people with shipbuilding knowledge and skills to get Stormstead’s ship  ‘off the ground’ and into the water.

As Governor Jil has stated, “A viable means of trade is critical to Stormstead’s survival.  An intact ship means for more reliable trade goods with Aradia and Shalan’ti.  This would benefit not only the citizens of Stormstead but our allies and increase travel options between those two locations.”

Stormstead citizenry need to take advantage of the monsoon season’s high waters if we wish to start construction while we have limited portage on the Kuvari.  Once water’s recede, we will not have the depth needed.  Tengkuju traditionally lasts for another two full months so we must move fast.

A volunteer sign-up sheet has been left at the Craft Dock where the lumber and sailcloth is being housed.  Contact any Stormstead Council member to express your interest and add your name to the roster.

Work Party for Weaponry Supplies

bowery class-4_CROP

A call went out from the Governor’s Tea to Stormstead citizenry to help restock weaponry for the guardhouse.  Last month’s fire devastated the structure and laid waste to most of the cached supplies.  Recent events including the death of one of Stormstead’s own fishermen due to the savagery of a dire tiger attack has elevated the need for defensive weapons.  A cry went out to not only restock the armory but also to train and arm the citizens for better defense.

Once again Stormstead citizens and outside volunteers rallied to help one another by gathering at the Hand Crafted dock to participate in an impromptu ‘weapons party.’  Supplies had been gathered and set out and guests brought in to teach and assist people in the art of making bows and fletching arrows.  Hand Crafted’s own smithy, Ceallach Heavenmyst lead the demonstration on bowery.  He crafted a bow made of lemonwood.  Daniel also brought his crossbow and provided a demo on this unusual weapon.  And the far corner of the dock hosted an arrow fletching gathering lead by Blanche.

Response to the demonstrations was mixed as there were numerous distractions and activities taking place within this eclectic group.  Music and dancing began  lending a festiveness to the gathering.  Food and drink was generously provided by the Salty Swallow to show their support of the endeavor.  Arakaki arrived not only with food and drink to fill the masses but also produced a fiddle to add to the festive air.  Lilting flute music was provided by a dark-skinned fae with purple wings.  Lyn and Clover danced beautifully and even stayed to help with craft weaponry once the musicians were called away.

The event culminated with a generous pile of arrows and a few more bows to add to the arsenal.  No doubt this event will be recreated in the future to continue to increase public safety and awareness.

The Razor’s Edge – Volcanic Glass

razors_edge_molten_crucible

Molten Crucible’s Volcanic Glass – Weaponry that can be handled by Mystfolk!

Come one, come all to the Molten Crucible!

We have developed a new material that we call Volcanic Glass. This material is specially crafted to be as strong as steel while keeping a light, razor’s edge to slice through the toughest of foes.  Volcanic Glass is created through a special process in the volcano itself through a secret mixture of glass and a naturally occurring magical mineral.  This leaves the glass extremely strong and stiff and allows it to hold an edge unlike any other.  The glass weighs about ⅓ that of steel so it is very light and easy to wield.

Molten CrucibleBest of all, Volcanic Glass does not hurt Mystfolk –  unlike iron and steel, – meaning they too can have a formidable weapon for all of their cutting and piercing needs.  This material is exclusive to the Molten Crucible, so be sure to head under the volcano to get your Volcanic Glass today!  If used as a weapon, the glass will need to be brought in once per month for maintenance to ensure that it will not break, and that it holds a razor sharp edge.

The Molten Crucible is located in the Back Alley Market.  Simply enter the base of the volcano to the south, pass through the stone giant ruins, and follow the mineshaft tunnels upwards.  Alternatively, one may go through the wooden gate at the Night Cap to reach the same tunnels.

((Submitted by TenmeiHikari))

OOC Info. Volcanic Glass is similar to steel. Sharper but stiffer and slightly more brittle. Weapons made of Volcanic Glass need to be brought to the Molten Crucible once per month to repair. Volcanic Glass weighs ⅓ that of steel, so most swords will weigh about 1 pound or less. Daggers and knives will be almost weightless.))

Save us from this winged menace. Come work for us. In the shop. Come work in the shop. We need sailors that bathe. Traders who can count. And appraisers who understand value. And profit!  Yes! Profit!

Strike While the Metal is Hot!

blacksmith_banner

The Molten Crucible is open for business and looking for able bodies to staff the forge. Do you enjoy working metal, glass, jewelry, or crafting magical goods? Look no further than the finest forge in all of the islands, matched only by the Shalan’ti in resources. Come on down to The Back Alley under the volcano, where the heart of the earth glows as hot as the furious belly of Azifix, forging many goods ranging from the keenest of blades to the most intricate of glass vases. Perks of working include discounted goods, free upkeep for regular weapons and armor, and free hands on training for various crafts. Those working at the crucible may hold one, or multiple roles, such as a blacksmith who is also an artificer.

Positions include:

Crucible Blacksmith. A blacksmith, as the name implies, deals with iron and steel primarily. However, blacksmiths of The Molten Crucible should be knowledgeable in working other common materials such as copper, tin, bronze, silver, and gold. They may or may not know how to work more advanced metals, though those are likely to be seen to personally by the Forgemaster or the Foreman.

Crucible Gaffer. A gaffer does not work with metals, but glass. Known by the more common layman’s term of glassblower, a gaffer is expected to be adept at the blowing and shaping of glass. It is rumored that some glassblowers may have the ability to work with certain crystals as well.

Crucible Finesmith. A jeweler is one who works on intricate pieces, usually jewelry made of pricier metals such as silver and gold. A jeweler may also be called upon to work with more intricate details of an item such as engraving and other fine tasks unbefitting of the calloused and strong hands of a blacksmith.

Crucible Artificer: Worker who specializes in creating / crafting weapons / artifacts / items to be magically imbued. This may mean dealing with specialist materials or using a ritual approach alongside the physical crafting to make the finished item more attuned to magic.

For those who do well in the business, are active, and learn all facets of business that The Molten Crucible deals with, the position of Foreman is available. There is only one position for this role at the moment. The Foreman is adept in the day to day operations of The Molten Crucible. They act as a manager in the event the Forgemaster is unavailable. A Foreman does not suffer fools lightly, and is quick to ensure the proper order of the forge. The Foreman must have at least a general knowledge of all workings of the business in order to properly direct employees.

Please stop by The Molten Crucible for any inquiries. I would be glad to help anyone who wishes to join, or those who would like to commission a piece, no questions asked as long as you have the funds. We are located in The Back Alley under the volcano, next to The Booty Hole, also known as the stone giant ruins.
